Straight Talk Inc.’s Independent Collaborative
Sober Living Homes
Our extended care homes were created so that newly recovering individuals can thrive in the community while living in a sober, supportive environment. Our extended care program is a preferred destination for men and women who have completed primary treatment or have at least 90 days free of alcohol and illicit drugs and are ready to continue their care in a "real world" environment.
Straight Talk operates several extended care homes in Orange County. One of our homes is available exclusively for those struggling with HIV/AIDS. All of our extended care homes offer either temporary or long term options. Our homes are operated similarly to the Oxford house philosophy in that they are completely peer run. The residents are encouraged to handle everyday responsibilities – other than repairs, utilities and basic household financial concerns. With a higher degree of responsibility and independence than typical sober living facilities, our extended care residents feel it is their own home and can develop more self-esteem, autonomy and commitment to sobriety. Straight Talk works closely with Section 8 and accepts Shelter Plus Care vouchers. We also work closely with many community agencies to insure that our residents get the entire range of additional care they may need.
Recovering individuals in our long term programs are able to integrate back into society with substantial available support. Residents in our extended care program live in comfortable houses and are required to remain drug/alcohol free. The men and women enjoy the freedom of being able to come and go at their leisure. The greatest indicator of long-term recovery is time spent living in a supportive and structured environment. Some people need to be in a highly structured primary care program before transitioning into extended care. Others simply need a little accountability in a supportive environment and this is what is available in our extended care homes. We have found that individuals have the greatest opportunity to successfully transition back into society and preventing a relapse when they participate in long-term, extended care programs.
